Sergeant Robert MACKINTOSH 5th Bn T.A. THE QUEEN’S OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS: wife Margaret, née CHISHOLM was WAAF dressmaker in RAF EQUIPMENT for UNIFORMS &.brother JOHN was in the HIGHLAND DIV’s RECONNAISSANCE CORPS, also in DESERT, after NORMANDY up into REICHSWALD.

Robert joined Apr 1939, PIONEER Ptn defence of North; Bn joins re-formed 51st HIGHLAND DIVISION Jul42 (bound for Burma, switched to MIDEAST threat) in 152 BRIGADE with some 2nd Bn CAMERONs (F.M.Auchinleck “Their name had become a legend”) & 5th & 2nd SEAFORTHS; fought at EL ALAMEIN with 2 PDR in ANTI-TANK SUPPORT & then 1,500 miles westwards, via the BATTLES of MARETH LINE, WADI AKARIT etc to SICILY INVASION &, with the much better 6 POUNDERS, from PACHINO onwards; returned UK Oct43 to train for the NORMANDY INVASION D+1 with 152 BDE, ST HONORÉ, BOCAGE, BELGIUM & 23Dec to nr BASTOGNE in 2-3ft snow for the BATTLE of BULGE, later on the RHINE CROSSING where his BRENGUN CARRIER DRIVER, ERNIE MADDOCK from Liverpool, was killed by a shell.
