DONNET, Michel GL (#157)

Belgian aviator who, with Leon Divoy, flew in a dramatic escape to Essex at night on 5th July, 1940 in a stolen Stampe (an old biplane similar to a Tiger Moth) near Germans and Waterloo. After they both joined the RAF, he went on to fly Spitfires with 64 Sqn OC 64 & 350 Belgian Squadrons.

RNoAF & RAF destroyed more than 9 aircraft, mostly FW190s. Signed in memory of his Pathfinder brother Squadron Leader Johann CHRISTIE DSO DFC  who served in Bomber Command, and representing Norway’s Aircrew and 332 Sqn.

Pilot Lieutenant Conrad Philip BRISTOW for the ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE then Flight Lieutenant as ROYAL AIR FORCE formed on 1 Apr 1918: Philip flew the SHORT 184 for 2 years on ANTI-SUBMARINE PATROL and NAVAL RECONNAISSANCE, mainly from Eastgate.

JOICE, Mary (#190)

Mrs Mary JOICE (née BALMER), with a sister in RAF Intelligence & husband a HACKNEY BOROUGH ENGINEER in the BLITZ, was WW2 Personal Secretary to the Bishop George BELL (1883-1958) of Chichester, whose continuing secret pre-war links with his German counterparts via meetings in neutral Sweden were reported back to Foreign Secretary, Sir Anthony Eden.

BROWN, Richard (#295)

Leading Aircraftman Richard BROWN, Aircraft Fitter 2 Eng, was born in Jarrow in March 1919 and his nearly seven years of RAF service demonstrates a fine example that there were many GROUNDCREW TECHNICIANS in forward areas, who would in actual fact be bombed and strafed many times in forward airfields and areas in both Britain and Europe.
